Our Food: Part 2

So in part one I talked about Genetically Modified foods and milk. This has been such an eye opener and I pray you have taken time to check items in your home. Another area that I noticed also that has been Genetically Modified was our grains. More than 50 % of the U.S. grain is Genetically Modified.

As I looked up the ingredients from the sauces, creams and yogurt, I found they contained wheat, soy and corn. My husband and I had a family meeting this past Tuesday evening concerning all that I had found. We both came to the decision that we needed to make some changes, starting with learning how to make some of these items, without the extras.

I do realize that eating 100% organic is not available everywhere and can be really expensive. But there are still changes we can make like getting foods from local farmers, fresh markets and growing some of your own foods. Many grocery stores have organic and natural isles. But just remember to check your ingredients and know who you're buying from. Here is a guide I found that you can use when shopping.

Laura over at Heavenly Homemakers also had put together a series that I had put off reading until I had a moment. Check out Organic Food part one, part two, part three and part four.
I have come to a decision to stop posting match-ups, knowing that some of the contents are not real and were created in a lab (not how God intended).  I have enjoyed posting the match-ups and the savings, but not at the cost of my health and what I know now.  If you would still like match-ups you can use these sites:

Kroger- I Heart Kroger (Atlanta)

Pubix- The Krazy Coupon Lady or SouthernsSavers

CVS/Rite Aid/ Walgreens- Hip2Save or ForTheMommas

Martins- Anns Crazy World (Richmond) or Almost Extreme Coupon (West Virginia)

So I am looking forward to this challenge and learning how to make things from scratch. Thank you all for reading with me and hanging in on this journey.

Let me know if I missed a deal. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  1. Good luck with your journey. I recently discovered Dominion Harvest. They offer fresh seasonal produce from local sustainable farms. They have several different options. I got my first box delivered last week and here is a link to the post that I talk about the box and a picture of the contents.

  2. @Ann

Yes what a journey but a fun one. My husband and myself just laugh now when we go to the store at the prices of everything that says it organic or natural. Another reason why I am going to attempt to do quite a few things myself. I love that martins and kroger have started offering local produce from local farmers.

I know we have farmers market here in the west end so I will be checking them out prayfully this week.

I took a look at the website for Dominion Harvest and it looks awesome. Looks like I will add them to my list for the future. I love that they deliver and it can be left out if your not there. Awesome and I look forward to your future posts on how it working for you lol.

I felt you did awesome straight to the point matchups like me and so it would be easy flow for my readers. So no problem!
